Commissioned by the Singapore Tourism Board, the pavilion was conceived as both a physical and symbolic expression of Singapore’s national ethos—small in size, big in dreams. Known as The Dream Sphere, the 17-metre-tall spherical structure draws inspiration from Singapore’s well-known nickname, the “Little Red Dot.”

Designed in collaboration with Kingsmen Exhibits, KR+D, Presplay, Milla & Partner GmbH and Finding Pictures, the pavilion embodies Singapore’s values of inclusion, collaboration, and innovation. These principles not only shape the nation’s development but also align with the central theme of Expo 2025 Osaka—“Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”

The pavilion’s façade is composed of 17,000 recycled aluminium Dream Discs, which incorporate the traditional Seigaha wave motif, symbolising the shared island heritage of Singapore and Japan and their mutual values of resilience. Varying in size and texture, the discs create a shimmering, tactile surface that reflects the collective aspirations of Singaporeans. Carefully engineered and assembled, each disc is mounted using a customised fixing system designed to accommodate the curvature of the Dream Sphere. steel and modular components, the pavilion allows for efficient assembly and disassembly, enhancing construction efficiency, reducing installation time, and ensuring accuracy despite the sphere’s complex geometry. The resulting façade forms a unified yet expressive architectural skin—an intricate tapestry of individual elements symbolising collective dreams and aspirations, while expressing a broader vision of unity and possibility.

Accessibility has been integral to the pavilion’s design. Visitors of all abilities can comfortably navigate the space through ramps and lifts, while braille maps and tactile signage support visually impaired guests. Sustainability also plays a fundamental role in both concept and construction. Guided by the 4Rs—Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Renew—the façade incorporates 70% post-consumer recycled aluminium, reducing embodied carbon by approximately 70 tonnes of CO₂, equivalent to the annual carbon absorption of around 2,500 trees.

More than an architectural landmark, the Singapore Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka serves as a platform for shared dreams and values. By bringing together innovation, sustainability, and inclusive design, it invites global audiences to imagine, collaborate, and contribute towards a more resilient, inclusive, and better-than-sustainable future.

Pelican stands out with its elegant, organic shape that enhances its surroundings, and is designed to integrate seamlessly into various outdoor spaces. Advanced edge-lit technology, composed of LED boards, diffuser, reflector, and drivers, enables Pelican to offer a wide, luminous area. Distributing light evenly across its expansive 24” x 18” surface eliminates harsh hotspots and reduces glare to create soft, uniform, and gradual illumination.

Lupa features a disk shape, no visible hardware, and a seamlessly integrated arm to bring a contemporary feel and refined look to public spaces. Lupa was intentionally designed with lower pole heights to contribute to a feeling of security. Yet, its light engine produces a gentler, more comfortable gradient for a softer look and glare-free environment. Lupa’s light engine also features the latest ink technology in its diffuser to deliver broader, more even light distribution.

Valenza’s straight geometric lines are offset and softened by organically inspired rounded edges. Seen from the side, its slender, subtle silhouette virtually disappears, belying the quality and strength of its illumination. Viewed head-on, the assertive V shape makes a strong impression, with a look that modernizes urban settings. The luminaire’s light engine, known for its superior performance and durability, is equipped with fully sealed, optically engineered, injection-molded acrylic lenses with an IP66 rating for superior performance and durability.

Dialight’s award underscores its leadership in designing and delivering industrial LED lighting solutions that address the unique challenges of harsh and hazardous environments, ensuring reliable performance even under the most demanding conditions.

By combining advanced optical design, durable construction, and market-leading warranty protection, Dialight continues to set the benchmark for performance and reliability in industrial LED lighting.

SIT Furniture Design Award was created to celebrate and share the remarkable work of furniture designers and those who use furniture in their projects. The creativity, innovative vision, and accessibility of the furniture design community deserve to be applauded and shared worldwide. The fifth edition of the competition featured over 400 submissions from 44 countries; winners were selected by a prestigious international jury of designers, architects, and educators.

Symmetrical and minimalist, Junction is an aluminium luminaire shaped by up to five arms that pivot around a central mast. The open structure creates negative space around the mast, emphasizing an airy aesthetic that enhances a variety of large-scale spaces. Junction comes together in multiple configurations and each arm can rotate 180 degrees. Junction was recognized in the Ceiling Lights category.

Lattice, in sphere, cone, or cylinder, is a sculptural luminaire that is available on demand. Its multiple, intricate layers are created using metal 3D printing, for a distinctive design aesthetic. Light passes through delicately, creating a gentle, ambient glow. Lattice was a winner in the Pendant Lighting category.

Velia is a unique tubular luminaire with a sleek, modernized look. The versatile family is offered in a variety of colors, textures, lengths, and configurations to meet a variety of space aesthetics. Velia’s outer layer is a durable polycarbonate diffuser film with a smooth surface and three unique finishes. The interior film is offered in a choice of colors. Velia was recognized in the Decorative Accent Lamp category.

The Innovation Excellence Award spotlights customer ingenuity in using the ETQ Reliance quality management system (QMS) in creative and innovative ways to address some of the most pressing challenges in quality management today.

Cree LED leveraged its ETQ Reliance platform to create a custom module solution which stores data in the QMS and eases customer input. The module provides automated workflows, which allow surveys to get routed to the customer service team as soon as they are completed. Further, by integrating analytics, the survey module can track customer satisfaction data, helping Cree LED continuously improve operations.

By building a robust custom quoting module on the platform, Cree LED was able to streamline the process of quoting, production planning and workflow management. The system centralizes customer requests, including specifications such as product type, production quantities, size and shape of custom items, ensuring seamless communication between internal teams and customers for timely and accurate order fulfillment.

This year’s competition recognized 19 outstanding lighting design projects spanning eight countries, with thirteen winning projects featuring IALD members on their design teams.

Established in 1983, the IALD Awards program remains the lighting design profession’s longest-running and highest honor, recognizing work that reaches new heights, moves beyond the ordinary, and represents excellence in aesthetic and technical design.

As the 2025 IALD Awards Chairperson, Uno Lai, IALD, CLD, hosted the awards presentation and served as master of ceremonies for the evening.

“Our winners represent the pinnacle of lighting design creativity and technical execution,” Lai said. “The diversity of projects from across the globe demonstrates how lighting design continues to evolve and enhance our built environment in meaningful ways.”

Australian studio Electrolight takes home the 2025 IALD Radiance Award

The night’s highest honor, the 2025 IALD Radiance Award for Excellence in Lighting Design, was presented to “Muru Giligu – Metro Martin Place Pedestrian Link,” an innovative Australian project designed by the Sydney studio Electrolight. The project stood out for its exceptional integration of lighting design with architecture, creating a transformative experience for pedestrians in this urban environment.

The ceremony featured 14 award recipients accepting their honors on stage to enthusiastic applause from industry peers. The winning projects showcased a variety of applications, from places of worship and cultural institutions to commercial developments and hospitality venues.

As the evening concluded with music and merriment, the assembled guests were reminded that the call for entries in the 2026 awards cycle will open in early June. This will allow interested design firms to submit for consideration for the 43^rd annual iteration, culminating in a presentation ceremony in March 2026 at Light + Building in Frankfurt, Germany.

The LightFair Innovation Awards committee selects and celebrates innovative technologies and outstanding achievements in the lighting industry. Presented by LightFair, the premier biennial architectural and commercial lighting trade show and conference.

Cube Direct Mountable Chip is an LED that realizes a horizontal light distribution by combining Nichia’s expertise and technology in phosphors and LEDs cultivated over many years. The strong horizontal light is effective to realize thinner and lighter weight fixtures, as well as to reduce building materials. In addition, it creates a soft, low-glare light that envelops the entire environment.

The term sustainability is one of the defining keywords of our time. In an effort to go beyond just words and ensure that sustainability is actually put into practice,  ever more companies around the world are undergoing assessments from the renowned independent rating agency EcoVadis. Now, ESYLUX GmbH has received the EcoVadis silver medal for the first time.

ESYLUX GmbH among the top 15 percent of all companies rated The EcoVadis assessment focused on the themes of Environment, Labour and Human Rights, Ethics and Sustainable Procurement.

In the Environment category, ESYLUX obtained the highest possible score.
