In this issue, we present a special pre-event report highlighting the key agendas, prominent exhibitors, and the expanding scope of the fair.

Closer to home, India will also witness a major industry showcase with Light + LED Expo Mumbai 2026, taking place from 07 to 09 May in Mumbai. Lighting design today carries a greater sense of responsibility. Along with aesthetics and functionality, designers must consider environmental impact, energy efficiency, and the well-being of people who inhabit these spaces.

In this issue of Lighting India, we begin with our cover story, “The Interplay of Light, Perception, and Architecture,” which explores how thoughtful lighting design can transform architectural narratives. The article examines how light interacts with materials, form, and human movement to create environments that are not only functional but also emotionally engaging.

The industry’s global calendar in 2026 will feature several significant trade events, including Light + Building 2026, scheduled from 8–13 March 2026 in Frankfurt am Main.  The year will also see the return of Light + LED Expo, Mumbai between 07-09 May 2026 – another important platform highlighting advances in LED technology, architectural lighting, and smart lighting.

The issue also brings a technically insightful article by Anil Valia, titled “Why Lower CCT for Road Lighting Applications?” The piece discusses the importance of selecting appropriate correlated colour temperatures in street lighting, emphasizing how lower CCT solutions can improve visual comfort, reduce glare, and contribute to more sustainable and human-friendly urban environments.

In addition to these features, the issue includes several architectural lighting projects that highlight innovative applications of light across different building typologies.

We saw lots of Architectural marvels this year. One of the notable ones is the permanent LED façade lighting of Vidhana Soudha in Bengaluru, unveiled in April 2025. The thoughtfully designed lighting scheme uses energy-efficient LEDs and dynamic control programming to accentuate the monumental architecture of the state legislature, enhance pedestrian safety after dark, and reinforce civic pride through colour themes tied to cultural occasions.

This issue of Lighting India presents architectural lighting through projects that celebrate materiality and context. The cover story titled “Lighting as the Silent Architect” shows how lighting is an invisible yet powerful design force that shapes perception, emotion, movement, identity, and sustainability in architecture when thoughtfully integrated from the outset.

Up next, we have the India’s first nature-themed airport design project covered, that shows how nature and modernity can be combined subtly while preserving culture. The largest segment by value share is Industrial and Warehouse lighting, accounting for 58.01% in 2023. LED sales in this category were expected to reach 1681.8 million units by the end of 2023.

In 2023, Streets and Roadways held a 74.79% market value share, making it the leading segment. LED penetration in this category was predicted to reach 68.8 million units. India has a vast road network covering 63.73 million kilometres, which contributes to the country’s need for outdoor lighting.

According to the report by Mordor intelligence, the industrial and warehouse market was predicted to have the biggest share (58%) in 2023, followed by residential (24.4%), commercial (15.2%), and agricultural lighting (2%). India, which hopes to export items valued at $1 trillion USD by 2030, is well on its way to emerging as a global manufacturing powerhouse.

Additionally, the market may be helped by the execution of numerous initiatives and regulations, such as the National Manufacturing Policy, which seeks to raise the manufacturing sector’s GDP share to 25% by 2025.

In summary, the Indian LED lighting market is witnessing robust growth, and is poised for significant growth, with its market size expanding due to various factors influencing demand across different segments. The industrial and warehouse segment is anticipated to dominate in terms of value share, driven by the country’s ambition to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and export potential.

The new Brightline Mako and Minnow fixtures are well suited for a variety of applications, including broadcast studios, production studios, and large and mid-sized presentation rooms.  The profile spotlight LEDs offer noise-free, fanless conduction cooling and are available in tunable Variable White and RGBW (Red, Green, Blue, White) versions. The Mako spotlight uses interchangeable, prime lenses and is designed for longer throws within large rooms or studios. The Minnow covers a shorter throw and is ideal as a key and accent light. Brightline Minnows have a compact zoom lens, enabling precise and continual adjustment to create the desired beam size. 

“This new family of fixtures provide lighting designers with a new tool set that fits hand in glove with the rest of our product line,” said Kathy Katz, Co-Founder, Brightline. “The Mako and Minnow can be used as variable white spots, as well as color changing effects.”

Setting the Mako and Minnow apart from competitive products is the fact that the fixtures are conduction cooled. With conduction cooling, heat is transferred from the COB (Chip On Board) LED to the heat sink and then to the mass of the fixture. “We build all of our product lines around fanless designs,” added Katz. “When a fixture has no moving parts, its continual use is extended dramatically, which is the case with many of our studio fixtures that continue to operate after 20-plus years of daily use.”

The Mako and Minnow series feature a variable white LED (3200K-6000K) and 95+ CRI tunable white chip. Tunable white applications enable the user to independently control color temperature. The Mako and Minnow RGBW models provide full color spectrum performance and feature a 4-in-1 LED RGBW for the brightest output and boldest color rendering.

“Our new profile spotlights give lighting directors additional tools to satisfy the scenic demands of today’s innovative set designs found in small and large studios,” explained Katz. “The ability to control the size, shape and intensity of the beam of light presents lighting directors with a wealth of innovative options.
