Signify, stated that Albuna Farms, a leading cucumber producer in Canada, has chosen to install Philips GreenPower LED interlighting to grow lights in its greenhouse in Ruthven, Ontario. During the first phase of the project, Philips GreenPower LED interlighting to grow lights will be installed on 4.7 hectares in their greenhouse. Albuna Farms expects the new system to provide a consistent and economical way to grow and harvest mini cucumbers throughout the winter months using the canopy lighting solution while decreasing energy consumption by 50% compared to conventional lighting systems.
John Klassen, Head Grower, Albuna Farms said: “We were already very impressed with the results of the Philips LED grow lights used for our strawberry crops. After we visited Signify’s exclusive cucumber customer community event in Europe last year, we were convinced that the LED interlighting would also be beneficial for our cucumber crops.”

They’re more energy-efficient than high-pressure sodium lights (HPS) and, they also last five to ten times longer than HPS. Honey Electric, a certified Philips Horti LED Partner, will supervise the installation of the Interlighting in the mini-cucumber crop. Installation is expected to be completed by December 2020.
