D’corexxx Le Boudoir is a chic and risqué after-hours concept in the bar and lounge space of the event. The challenge of designing the lighting for a trade fair is that this is a temporary structure, and DesignPlusLight had to be mindful of the space, the available electrical power and the logistics of installing and commissioning the lighting over the course of a few days.
The aim was to create the warmth and cosiness of a distinguished nightclub setting, transforming a space within the exhibition into its own distinct bar area. This was achieved by limiting the use of overhead lighting to focus illumination on artwork and key focal pieces. Three key decorative pendants from Cameron Design House anchored the view over the entrance reception, raised stage area and above the bar. DesignPlusLight utilised these key points in the design, fixing the latest track spotlights from Tryka, the ELTR-Z55.
This adjustable zoom track spotlight was an innovative solution for this installation, offering flexibility and adjustability to focus the lighting where it is needed. The spotlights can be located to highlight furniture as it is installed and moved around and to project arcs of light across the back bar wall to enhance the texture of the wall features and to create a sense of movement. The bonus of an adjustable beam angle allows for precision focus and effortless fine-tuning of the lighting.
The front bar features a titillating bas-relief design in plasterwork by Benjamin Raymond. This was lit from the top and bottom with colour-changing LED strip-lights, with a striking red selected to enhance the night-club feel and to compliment the rich burgundy tones of the interiors.
A softer ambience was created through concealed strip-lighting behind the corner banquettes, transforming the decorative wallpaper into a focal feature. Uplights were also concealed behind screens and planting to add a layer of texture and interest in the corners of the room. Linear strip-lights were used to highlight the steps, prominently highlighting the raised dais and drawing the eye to the end of the room. Rechargeable table lamps from J Adams & Co and Collier Webb provide a soft sparkle and warmth on each table for an intimate dining experience.
The lighting was managed by a Lutron control system that allowed the change of lighting scenes at the simple touch of a button. The control system was primarily used to set the initial light levels and present a balanced composition which adapted to the amount of natural daylight that flooded the space.
