Invention of LED lamps is truly a big boon to the human civilization owing to the fact that they not only provide illumination but also they are equally capable of performing many other data collection and communication related jobs. In today’s modern life, when Internet of Things (IoT) is rapidly advancing towards all spheres of our lives, it is almost impossible to survive without sharing data through WiFi systems. However, the issue of spectrum crunch is also increasing very fast – and soon it will reach a very critical point.
In this situation, the LiFi technology has started showing the light of a big hope. This is a visible light communication system as an alternative to radio signals. It can transmit data at a speed of over 100 Gbps. According to the latest report by Kenneth Research, “Li-Fi delivers high-speed in a much more secure way that even the latest Wi-Fi advancements cannot offer. Li-Fi allows 100 times faster data transmission than Wi-Fi, making it more competent.”
In LiFi technology, LED light bulbs are made to emit pulses of light that are invisible to the human eyes. Within those emitted pulses, data can travel to and from receivers. Thereafter, the receivers collect information and interpret the same. Thus, when the radio frequencies generated by the traditional Internet communication systems pose several health concerns, LIFi offers a very cool environment for data communication.
From the general safety point of views too, LiFi is a much better choice. Inside petrol pumps and petrochemical plants, where use of WiFi or mobile phones are very risky, LiFi is a safe data communication solution. I feel within next few years, LiFi will almost completely replace WiFi systems.
